Learning through virtual laboratories

Learning is no more restricted to physical presence in laboratories, in the present era of digitization now it is possible to learn from remote areas where the possibility of learning by physical presence is difficult. We can say that in post corona era digital bloom makes it easy to access knowledge and learn things or remove the barrier that hinders the learning process.

The virtual lab is the concept with the objective of giving remote access to simulation-based Labs in various fields of knowledge. A virtual lab is learning through curiosity through remote experimentation. Virtual learning includes self-evaluation, additional web resources, animated demonstrations, and video lectures.

Virtual learning is an initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE) under the aegis of “The National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT). Virtual learning is anytime anywhere lab, it is free to use.

The accessibility of virtual labs is easy through the internet on a laptop or any PC even on smartphones and tablets. Learning through virtual labs developed a self-learning mode. This learning process also helps in creating innovation in experiments. Over 120 virtual labs have already been developed.

  3. IIT Kharagpur
  4. IIT Kanpur
  5. IIT Roorkee
  6. IIT Guwahati
  7. IIT Hyderabad
  8. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeethan Kerala
  9. Dayalbagh Educational Institute Agra
  10. NITK Surathkal
  11. College of Engineering Pune

Are the participants of this nodal area This remote access to simulation-based Labs covered all major areas of engineering and science.

Learning through virtual labs is student-centric learning and its key role is the proliferation of quality labs and their access remotely.

These simulation-based labs are available 24 hours world widely. Simulation learning caters to curiosity and enthusiasm towards learning at the UG level, PG level, and also to research scholars. This learning also enables students to learn at their own pace.

Virtual labs are beneficial

  1. To students, faculty members as well as to who want to learn something new out of curiosity.
  2. Colleges that lack good labs can take advantage of digital labs.
  3. Simulation-based labs help faculty members to complement their theory lectures.

Furthermore, the cost of establishing a physical lab occurs in lakhs while establishing a virtual lab the cost is almost negligible only you required a digital device with a good internet connection. The advantage of virtual lab is its availability all the time the disadvantage of the physics lab is that can be utilized for a limited time in a limited space only.

The physical labs give limited options for innovation regardless of virtual labs that give wider and safe options for innovative experimentations. The simulation-based learning gives you similar satisfactory learning as the learning in the physical lab.

Virtual learning triggered inquisitiveness in high school students and motivates them to higher studies. Researchers can share collaborative equipment and resources through simulation-based learning platforms.

The virtual Laboratory compiled digitized texts and images with data sheets from different resources and also holds typographical work on the experimentalization of life along with the working environment to enable new paths of writing history.

The major challenge that is faced by virtual lab users is a lack of control over the content and its selection and sometimes understanding of specific concepts. When surveyed more than 90% of students noted that virtual labs helped them to learn and understand various concepts and that they would be the regular user of these virtual labs.
